The other day I had the pleasure of interviewing Nancy Carter Hanger. She’s an old friend of Neil’s and the proprietress of Star Cat Books, an independent bookstore in Vermont. She also mentioned she was the copy editor on The Graveyard Book.

She revealed many interesting things about Neil and those around him, but for now I’m just going to share one anecdote from her, one that adds to the many, many stories that reveal how the lives of famous men, and particularly Neil Gaiman’s, are different from the rest of us.

I first asked her how she met Neil Gaiman:

‘‘Ah, okay, that’s easy. I believe it was 1990, it was the the first of the American Good Omens tours and a friend who I am only going to call X, because X was involved with Neil for a number of years, and in fact, was dropped for Amanda.
